CHEVENING/CLORE FELLOWSHIPS

What is the Chevening/Clore Fellowship?
The Chevening/Clore Fellowship offers exceptional mid-career professionals in the arts and culture sector an extraordinary opportunity to undertake an individually tailored professional development programme in the UK.
The Chevening/Clore Fellowship is a collaboration between the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Clore Leadership Programme, bringing into the UK up to six outstanding leaders in the cultural and creative sectors from across the globe to join a group of around 20 other carefully selected professionals from across the UK and beyond. Now in it’s 12th year, the Clore Fellows have proved to be a self-sustaining network in a growing international family.
Each Fellowship includes:

• Attendance at two mandatory intensive residential leadership courses (lasting two weeks each) in September and in June/July 2024
• Access to a training budget of up to £14,000
• A period of secondment of approximately eight weeks at a cultural institution in the UK
• An individually tailored fellowship learning plan which may include participation in courses, conferences, and other professional development activities in the UK
• Support from a mentor in the UK
• Accommodation and living expenses for the duration of the Fellowship
• Travel in the UK

Who is it for?
From artists and entrepreneurs to heads of established institutions, the Clore Fellowships nurture dynamic and diverse leaders. The participants are drawn from a range of specialisms including:

• Visual and performing arts
• Film and digital media
• Libraries, museums, archives, and heritage
• Cultural policy

Chevening/Clore Fellows benefit from a diverse peer group, unparalleled access to experienced leaders, thinkers, experts, and artists, and extensive networks. Their learning is tailored to their individual needs and aspirations. They work in small groups on practical projects, and attend masterclasses, talks, and workshops on topics like change management, strategic planning, and cultural policy.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for a Chevening/Clore Fellowship, you must:

• Be a citizen of Brazil, China, India, Jordan, Egypt, Mexico, or South Africa. You must not hold British nationality.
• Intend to return to the country you were selected from at the end of the period of study
• Hold a degree that is equivalent to at least a good UK second-class honours degree or have equivalent professional training and/or experience
• Have completed at least five years’ paid work experience either in employment, self-employed or freelance by the time you submit your application
• Meet the English language requirement of the Chevening programme
• Agree to adhere to all relevant guidelines and expectations for the programme

What we look for in potential Fellows:
Candidates should be of a similar high calibre to the Clore Fellows and have a track record in their home country, with an expectation that they will fill senior leadership roles in the future. We are not looking for perfectly formed leaders, but we are keen to offer Scholarships to exceptional individuals who are ambitious to lead, and take responsibility for themselves and their actions.
Candidates will need to be able to explain in their application and interview how the Chevening/Clore Fellowship will make a difference to them. They must be able to demonstrate ambition and proven achievement in their professional life, as well as most or all of the attributes listed in our Looking for Leaders section.
The closing date for applying is noon, 8 November . Applications will not be accepted after this date.
What Happens After?
Short-listed candidates will be required to participate in an interview (either by telephone or Skype) with representatives from the Clore Leadership Programme, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the British Embassy/High Commission in the applicant’s home country between March-May .
