use chemical processes to find new ways to produce goods, from pharmaceuticals to textiles and even food.
To work within this sector, you will need basic project management experience and can expect to earn between R280 000 and R500 000/annum depending on years within the field.

Civil Engineers
oversee the construction of major infrastructures such as railways, highways, bridges, skyscraper buildings and water reservoirs. Skills within this sector include: Windows NT/200/XP Networking and project management.
Civil engineers earn an average of R310 000/annum.

Industrial Engineers
are organizers of equipment, information, people and places – they ensure that big and complex systems run as they should. Some of the skills within this sector include: business process engineering, project management and process improvements.
Industrial engineers with less than 10 years experience can expect to earn within the range of R270 000/annum.

Mechanical Engineers
are the brains behind the design of anything with a mechanical process, often called the “general practitioners” of engineering, as they can work in various sectors. To work within this sector, you will need Computer Aided Design (CAD) and project management experience.
These types of engineers earn an average of R350 000/annum.

Electrical Engineering
is made up of 2 parts: macro engineering, which involves the design of major projects; such as power grids for a city or roller coasters in an amusement park, and micro engineering which focuses on the design of smaller projects; such as a cars airbag sensors or digital cameras and MP3 players.
Skills associated with this engineering sector are: visual basic and project management. Electrical engineers with less than 10 years experience will earn around R350 000/annum.

Environmental Engineers
are the people who can make a difference to saving the planet, by finding ways to clean rivers, oceans and the drinking water, as well as ways to eliminate air pollution and safely dispose of toxic waste.
Salaries for environmental engineers range from R116 000 – R 420 000/annum based on experience and time within the field.

Mining Engineers
are those that apply both technology and science to extracting earth minerals. Geology, metallurgy, surveying and mineral processing are ll associated with this engineering sector. The pay range for this discipline is on average R130 000 – R430 000/annum.
